The Lineage of Lu Tung Bin

Lu Tung Bin is considered to be one of the Taoist Eight Immortals of China. He was born in 789 AD during the Tang Dynasty (618-905 AD). He was a scholar, a poet, a calligrapher and had assisted in the translation of Christian Gospels that came to China through the Silk Road.
Generally Lu Tung Bin is shown with a straight sword strapped on his back and with a fly whisk in his hands. He is noted to have supernatural abilities, which are well known in China. Some noteworthy events attributed to Lu Tung Bin are facilitating the writing of "The Secret of the Golden Flower", creating the Chi Kung exercises called "The 8 Brocades" and guiding the monk Chang San Feng through a dream to create what is know as "Tai Chi Chuan".
The fundamental purpose of the Taoist teachings from the lineage of Lu Tung Bin are to guide the student towards a happier, productive and more content life. The teachings consist of several disciplines including Chi Kung as well as quiet sitting meditation.
The teachings of Buddhism, Eastern Christianity and Confucius influenced the Taoist teachings of Lu Tung Bin. His teachings of Taoism were called the School of the Elixir of Life, established during the Tang Dynasty when religious tolerance was very high.
Wong Lung Kuan (Yellow Dragon Taoist Temple) was located on Lou Fu Shan / Mountain in Guangdong Province China and was dedicated to the Immortal Lu Tung Bin. It was destroyed during the communist takeover of China. However from around 1935 to 1948 Master Lew Kim Yuen lived and trained in the temple. Orphaned at an earlier age, a monk from the temple found him wandering, so subsequently took him to live in the temple.
Master Lew was born in 1918 and pass away in 2012 at the age of 94. He was fortunate enough to have been trained in the Lineage of Lu Tung Bin, called Tao An, also known as the Elixir of Life. He had several fine teachers, including wandering monks eager to share their knowledge who knew that the Arts and Disciplines of Old China were in jeopardy; about to be eliminated by the communist takeover.
In 1948 he departed for San Francisco California under the petition of his uncle Master Lau Bun, 4th Generation Master of Hung Sing Choy Li Fut Kung fu. Around 1970, Master Lew broke the unwritten rule which said that non-Chinese could not learn the arts. He then began to teach publicly in Los Angeles California. My studies of the Taoist Lineage of Lu Tung Bin started in 1974 with Master Lew and this remains my primary lineage.
