The Elixir of Life, Lineage from the Taoist Lu Tung Bin
When knowledge is passed from a teacher to student...an unbroken and invisible line of relationships exist, which is called a Lineage. In my life I have been fortunate enough have been exposed to several fine lineages and teachers who have graciously imparted their teachings with me. These ultimately have polished the facets of who I am today. My primary lineage is from Lu Tung Bin, who founded the School of the Elixir of Life, which contained the teaching of Neidan Internal alchemy, Wu De martial virtue, meditation, Chi Kung and Tao Study. The primary purpose of the school was to facilitate personal growth and humanitarian services.
Lu Tung Bin is considered to be one of the Taoist Eight Immortals of China. He was born in 789 AD during the Tang Dynasty (618-905 AD). Generally Lu Tung Bin is shown with a straight sword strapped on his back and with a fly whisk in his hands.
He was a scholar, a poet, a calligrapher and it has been said that he assisted in the translation of Christian Gospels that came to China through the Silk Road. He also founded the Quanzhen Lineage of Taoism and facilitated the writing of "The Secret of the Golden Flower", "Conversations with Chung Li Chuan and Lu Tung Bin" and 3 Teachings to Heal the World" along with many other Taoist texts.
Wong Lung Kuan (Yellow Dragon Taoist Temple) was located on Lou Fu Shan / Mountain in Guangdong Province China and was dedicated to Lu Tung Bin.
Master Lew Kim Yuen was born in 1918 and pass away in 2012 at the age of 94. In 1935 he was orphaned and then taken to Wong Lung. There he lived and was trained in the teachings of Lu Tung Bin until his departure in 1948.
He was fortunate enough to have been trained in the Lineage of Lu Tung Bin, called Tao An, also known as the Elixir of Life. He had several fine teachers, including wandering monks eager to share their knowledge who knew that the Arts and Disciplines of Old China were in jeopardy; about to be eliminated by the communist takeover.
In 1948 he departed for San Francisco California under the petition of his uncle Master Lau Bun, 4th Generation Master of Hung Sing Choy Li Fut Kung fu. Around 1970, Master Lew broke the unwritten rule which said that non-Chinese could not learn the arts. He then began to teach publicly in Los Angeles California. My studies of the Taoist Lineage of Lu Tung Bin started in 1974 with Master Lew and this remains my primary lineage.
